This notice describes the measurement and browser preferences used by canberk.me, an independent publication operated by Canberk Kılıçarslan.
Your choices
Analytics is off until you accept it. You can reject it and continue reading, or change your choice using Cookie preferences in the footer. We do not use advertising personalisation.
What is stored on your device?
- canberk-theme: your light/dark choice, in local storage until you clear it.
- canberk-consent-v1: your analytics choice and its date, in local storage for up to 180 days.
- _ga and _ga_*: first-party Google Analytics identifiers, created after consent. This site configures an expiry of 180 days, which Google may refresh during use.
- canberk-read:*: session storage flags that avoid counting the same article repeatedly within a tab and UTC day. These are used only after analytics consent.
Measurement
With permission, Google Analytics receives page and device information to help us understand site use. Google processes this information on its infrastructure, which may involve processing outside your country. Our separate readership counter records aggregate article reads. For duplicate prevention it temporarily stores a daily salted hash of the connection IP, rather than the raw address, with a rolling seven-day retention window. When the community service is enabled, article totals are retained without visitor identifiers, while daily counters and duplicate-prevention hashes cover today and the previous six UTC days. Expired records are removed on the next counter update or community maintenance request. Counts represent approximate consented reads, not audited audience figures.
With your analytics permission, Cloudflare Web Analytics also measures page visits and browser performance. Cloudflare states that this service does not use cookies or local storage to track visitors. On this site it follows the same analytics choice as Google Analytics; rejecting analytics prevents the beacon from loading. Cloudflare Web Analytics ↗
Fonts, links and email
Fonts are served by our hosting provider alongside the pages. Social links take you to the relevant platform when clicked; their own policies apply. Email subscriptions are separate from analytics consent: preferences and confirmation are requested for newsletter delivery. Hosting services also process the connection information required to serve the site.
Newsletter data
We store your email address, selected schedules, language and confirmation dates on our hosting server. Unconfirmed requests expire after 24 hours; expired records are removed on the next newsletter request. Confirmed subscriptions remain until you unsubscribe. Every newsletter includes an unsubscribe link; removal also cancels pending confirmation requests for that address. Hashed delivery identifiers are retained for up to 30 days to avoid duplicate messages, and hashed request limits for up to one hour. These expired records are removed on the next request. Messages are sent through our hosting SMTP service from news@canberk.me. We do not include tracking pixels. You can request access, correction or deletion using the contact below.
New private newsletter delivery-history entries also record the recipient address, language, message type, related article links, time and SMTP acceptance or unconfirmed result. They do not include confirmation tokens or message bodies. Entries older than 30 days are removed on the next newsletter request, and only the latest 20,000 entries are kept. Unsubscribing removes active and pending subscriptions; this limited delivery history remains until cleanup. SMTP acceptance does not prove inbox placement or reading.
Saved articles
Saving is optional. The canberk-saved-articles-v1 browser entry stores article identifiers only, on this browser until you remove them or clear local storage. It is not synced to a server or account.
Comments and abuse prevention
When comments are enabled, we store your chosen display name, comment, article and submission/moderation dates on our hosting server. No account or email address is required. Only editor-approved comments become public. Pending comments expire after 30 days; rejected comments and spam expire after 7 days. Approved comments remain until removed. Cleanup runs on the next comment submission, counter update, admin visit or digest request; it does not run while the service is idle.
Opening the comment form loads Cloudflare Turnstile for a security check. This is separate from analytics consent. Our server temporarily stores keyed IP hashes for abuse limits (comment limits up to one hour; admin login limits up to one hour), rather than raw IP addresses. Correction suggestions
The article correction form sends your explanation, an optional source link, the article identifier and submission date to the editor. No name, email or account is required. Suggestions are private and are reviewed in the administration panel. They do not appear as public comments. The form uses the same Turnstile security check and temporary keyed IP limits described above. Pending suggestions expire 30 days after submission. Reviewed or declined suggestions expire 30 days after their last moderation decision. Expired records are removed on the next correction or admin maintenance request.
Contact messages
The contact form sends your email address, subject and message to our editorial mailbox through our hosting SMTP service. We use your address to reply; it does not create a newsletter subscription. Messages remain in the mailbox until deleted. Message text and email addresses are not stored in the website database. Keyed hashes for abuse limits and duplicate delivery prevention expire after one hour and are removed on a later contact request (shared rate-limit hashes may also be removed during community maintenance). Interacting with the form loads the Turnstile security check described above.
